Dr.B. Vishal Rao is a senior consultant pathologist (histopathology) with a special interest in genitourinary oncopathology reporting along with gastrointestinal and gynae-oncopathology systems. He has more than 11 years of experience in his field of reporting these systems.
He has done his Graduation and Post-Graduation from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, Wardha. After which he did Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Oncopathology from the prestigious institute of Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. After completion of his fellowship, he did an Observership as a post-doctoral fellow under world-renowned genitourinary pathologist Dr. Jonathan Epstein in Johns Hopkins Medical
Center, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. After completing his training, he joined Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute and started working with full dedication and discipline to provide world-class care in 2014. He also holds a degree of Diplomat of National Board (DNB) in pathology (2019) and Diplomate of The Royal College of Pathologists, London (2020).
Dr. Vishal has a prolific research record with numerous peer-reviewed publications and many oral presentations at national and international meetings. He won Gold medal as Young Scientist award for paper presentation in the 1 st Indian Association of Pathology and Microbiology conference- Telangana State Chapter in Hyderabad in 2016.
He is a reviewer for genitourinary oncopathology articles for the Indian Journal of Cancer. He was also a former Ambassador for the United States College of Pathologists. Recently, a new society called as Society of Genitourinary Pathologists has been formed and Dr. Vishal is the joint general secretary for the same. He conducted the first International conference in our hospital under this newly formed society.
He has received and is pursuing the prestigious Fellowship/Visiting Scientist post as an IARC editor for the upcoming WHO Classification of Urinary System & Male Genital Organs and Paediatrics Pathology, 5th Edition 2021. At BIACH & RI, Dr. Vishal reports and propels his research in the field of genitourinary oncopathology to make world-class services available to patients at affordable rates. His future vision is to start a fellowship programme in Uro-Oncopathology to enhance the research & teaching standards and to form a strong and clinically relevant molecular workup in Uro-Oncopathology.
